In
1974 when Bob Marley went solo, on the brink of international stardom,
he surprised the music community by choosing as his lead guitarist
the soft spoken, American-born Al Anderson. It was Anderson’s stunning
lead work on such classics as No Woman, No Cry, Dem Belly Full and
Curfew (Three O’ Clock Road Block) that first alerted rock fans
to the Wailers’ music. Over a billion dollars worth of Marley’s
music featuring Al Anderson’s evocative guitar work has been sold
worldwide. Al has also played with the legendary Peter Tosh, James
Brown, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Inner
Circle, Traffic and Ben Harper.
Junior
Marvin joined Marley as singer/guitarist during the sessions for
Exodus and Kaya albums, shortly before the band’s legendary appearance
at London’s Rainbow Theatre in ’77. Junior has also to his credit
worked with Ike & Tina Turner, Steve Winwood, Linda Lewis, T-Bone
Walker, Billy Preston, Chris Wood in both the US and UK. In 2011,
Junior Marvin departed the group.
Al Anderson is the sole original member of the Wailer's classic
line-up in The Original Wailers. The reformed configuration includes
Desi Hyson (Vocals/Keyboards), Steve Samuels (Bass Guitar), Paapa
Nyarkoh (Drums) and Marty Batista (Keyboards and Organ) that carry
forward the true spirit and realities of the original music and
the message of “One Love”.

Reggae
Superstar Ziggy Marley just released "Wild and Free", his fourth
solo album. The 5-time Grammy winner has been on the music scene
for over 25 years, starting with recording with his legendary father
and his siblings.
Through
the 80's and 90's Ziggy, along with the Melody Makers, released
a number of highly acclaimed albums including "Conscious Party"
and "One Bright Day." After two decades as the driving creative
force behind The Melody Makers, Ziggy's first solo tour came in
2002. He followed that with the 2003 release of "Dragonfly" and
the 2005 release of "Love is My Religion" a Grammy winner that further
explored personal, social and political themes amid a fragrant mix
of roots reggae, traditional rock 'n roll, African percussion and
other varied musical elements.
The
new album "Wild and Free" is a return to the roots of reggae's traditional
and familiar textures and rhythms, while further defining the unique
artistic vision that sets him apart. For more see www.mtlaurelpac.com

Five-time
Grammy winner and notable philanthropist, Ziggy Marley, was born
October 17, 1968 in Trenchtown, Jamaica. The eldest son of reggae
legend Bob Marley and his wife Rita, he began his musical career
playing with his father and siblings on the song “Children Playing
in the Streets” in 1979. The siblings became known collectively
as Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers and together recorded nine
albums between 1985 and 1999 including Grammy winners Conscious
Party, One Bright Day, and Fallen is Babylon. The band also had
a side focus on children’s entertainment, contributing to Disney’s
album For Our Children, benefiting the Pediatric AIDS Foundation;
Sesame Street, and Arthur, among others.
In
2001 Ziggy became more politically active, particularly as an advocate
for underprivileged children while over the years continued his
work in children’s entertainment. He served as Good Will Youth Ambassador
for the United Nations, created the Jamaican label Ghetto Youths
and founded U.R.G.E (Unlimited Resources Giving Enlightenment).
He also remained active in many other philanthropic organizations
and worked on numerous children and family programs including “Shark
Tale”, “Family Matters” and “Charmed”.
In
2003 Marley released his first solo album, Dragonfly, to much critical
acclaim, followed by Love Is My Religion in 2006 and Family Time
in 2009, which earned him his fourth and fifth Grammy Awards. 2011
marked his 30th year of musical success, with no sign of it ?slowing
down. This year saw the release of “Marijuana Man”, Marley’s first
ever graphic novel as well as the release of his newest album, the
Grammy-nominated Wild and Free, by his own label, Tough Gong Worldwide.

dreary over here at KROQ.
Culver City is cloudy, cold, and kind of depressing this month.
Sure, we’re knee-deep in awesome music and events like the OC Music

Together
with Bob Marley, the Wailers have sold in excess of 250 million
albums worldwide & have also played or performed with international
acts like Sting, the Fugees, Stevie Wonder, Carlos Santana, and
Alpha Blondy, as well as reggae legends such as Peter Tosh, Bunny
Wailer, and Burning Spear. As the greatest living exponents of Jamaica’s
reggae tradition, the Wailers have completed innumerable other tours,
playing to an estimated 24 million people across the globe.
Their
nucleus formed in 1969, when Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, and Peter
Tosh recruited the Barrett brothers - bassist Aston “Family Man”
and drummer Carly - from Lee Perry’s Upsetters. Inspired by Rastafari
and their ambitions of reaching an international audience, this
is the line-up that pioneered roots rock reggae, and signed to Island
Records in 1971.

The
debut record "Better Things" by Headshine caught the
attention of CBS radio. "Headshine, create music which conjures
up these quintessential California moments with warm-bodied acoustics,
Bob Marley-inspired reggae riffs, persuasive percussion, and a
fearless fader scratching that gives their sound an understated
edge. Much like the typical native Californian, Headshine is a
musical mosaic of melodies effortlessly melting into each other,
supported by luminous lyrics prompting the listeners towards self-compassion
and positive action. This sound transmuted into feeling is the
kind of experience that has prompted many a youthful daydreamer
into finding their own dreams with the peaceful churn of the Pacific
Ocean as their soundtrack." -KROQ

Performer
Magazine Reviews "Better Things" CD by Headshine
"Lead-singer
and songwriter, RAS, more or less coined the term for his band.
“Headshine” represents a good vibe when
things automatically click and the moment is just right. It’s like
catching the perfect wave - the feeling of being in-sync with yourself
and the elements.
This
synchronizing of sound and style is felt throughout the EP. RAS
sings like an artist who has been through a lot and is only beginning
to bare all. The Huntington Beach singer/songwriter has cultivated
a surfer/acoustic sound with a touch of reggae and California sunshine.
In
“Better Things,” the first track off Headshine’s EP, the message
is straightforward and light. RAS sings in his charismatic voice,
“Better things are coming my way/Never giving up/The best is yet
to come.” While “Better Things” might have a touch of premonition
to its lyrics, “One Spark” and “Devil in my Bed” are in tune with
a more Latin-feel. “Devil in my Bed,” with a hint of Ricky Martin-suavity,
is a fun and sexy song to listen to.
It
has to be stated here: RAS’s song-writing is simple yet the final
product is movingly so. His talent lies in his ability to craft
life, love, and all the spaces in-between into his lyrics. His voice
provides many textures to the music tapestry, so that there is not
one word that fully encompasses his style. With the backing of major-label
producer, Jim Perkins and with the premiere of his first single
“Better Things” on San Diego’s 91X, things are definitely looking
up for the singer/songwriter. RAS knew what he was talking about
when he sang “the best is yet to come.” -Performer Magazine.com,
